What is a Sensory Garden?
A sensory garden is a space created to be accessible and enjoyable to visitors.
The purpose of this space is to provide sensory stimulation courtesy of plants, materials and items that engage the senses of sight, smell, touch, taste and sound throughout the garden. This was established as part of becoming a more dementia friendly community.

The Sensory Garden includes raised garden beds for growing and harvesting of fresh produce, garden ornaments and features with a focus of items aimed to engage the senses and rekindle memories.
This space carries a country farming theme, aligned with the agricultural rich region the Lockyer Valley is know worldwide for. It also includes an outdoor museum display as part of being a more dementia friendly and inclusive community space. These items on display act as a tool to encourage memory recall and spark conversations and sharing of memories and knowledge across generations.
The garden plan offers a range of sensory experiences for the user, taking into account the special needs of many people with consideration given to important factors such as access, usability, comfort, suitability and sustainability.
